Ryze is one of the oldest champions in the game. In fact, he was among the first champions that were ever released into the game. Nowadays he is not seen often. Long gone are the days when Ryze was dominating mid lane. Riot had such a hard time keeping him balanced they had to rework him several times. Ever since his 5th rework in 2019 he has been performing subpar. It came to the point where Riot is hinting at another rework in the future. With so many changes focused on a single champion, it’s no surprise he has plenty of skin next to his name. We dived into them and ranked Ryze skins from best to worst. Continue reading to find out the best Ryze skin in the game right now.
Many of his skins are extremely old so they don’t match the quality of the newer League of Legends skins. To put it in perspective, between 2009 and 2012 he received 8 new skins. On the other hand, in the last 6 years, he had only 3 new ones. Our list won’t include Young Ryze and Triumphant Ryze, as they’re unavailable.
Table of Contents
10 .Tribal Ryze
There is certain disbelief seeing one of the strongest mages in the League of Legends universe in a human form. On top of that, he’s part of tribal peoples. He wears primitive clothing with a lot of furs. In the splash art, we can see dinosaurs in the background indicating how old he really is. It’s rarely available in the shop, but you can get it using the loot system.
9. Uncle Ryze
One of the few skins that you can buy at any time. Uncle Ryze costs 520 RP. It comes with no new animations, but it has updated sound effects. It is based on Uncle Sam, a national personification United States used to get people to sign up for war. Dressed in the trademark Uncle Sam’s red, white and blue colors, Ryze wants you to join him on the rift.
In-game, it feels slightly clunky, which can be attributed to a big hat that he is wearing. Splash art doesn’t exactly show him in real-time, but rather a poster with his image on it.
8. Ryze Whitebeard – Best Budget Skin
Long white beard, a hat, and a coat. Ryze Whitebeard has everything that a proper sorcerer needs to have. In-game, he is a bit harder to navigate. His model is slightly bit bigger, or at least appears that way compared to other skins. The good thing about that is his spells are also harder to notice. At the price of 750 RP, it is the best budget skin for Ryze in-game right now.
7. Professor Ryze
Opposite to Ryze Whitebeard, Professor has a much smaller model size. He wears university colors and glasses. For the price of 975, it doesn’t come with any new animations or sound effects. That is quite rare for such an expensive skin. On top of that, when throwing spells, the champion visibly stops in place. It is not the only skin that is affected by it and is one of the biggest differences between Ryze’s good and mediocre skins.
6. Pirate Ryze
Pirate Ryze is visually most similar to Professor skin. Their models are relative to the same size. The only difference is in appearance. Skin is thematically set in an alternative reality where Ryze doesn’t have to prevent Rune Wards.
Instead, he’s a pirate looking for any treasure he can find. He comes with updated animations, as well as sound effects. The best part of this skin is his Q animation. He shoots the spell from the cannon he’s wearing on his back.
5. Dark Crystal Ryze
For a long time, Dark Crystal Ryze was his best skin. But with the release of some of the new skins, it became obvious that it’s lacking certain things. For instance, it doesn’t have any new animations. Also, it is quite expensive at the price of 975 RP. On the other hand, we can see that Ryze is visibly angry in his splash art. His body is red, perhaps a sign of him unleashing his full power.
4. Guardian of the Sands Ryze
The most recent Ryze skin didn’t crack into our top 3 places. While it comes with new animations and sound effects, it is very similar to some of the worse Ryze skins. Its main flaw is a big model that is awful to navigate. And when you are playing a character like Ryze, you need everything to move flawlessly. That is the most important metric we used to rate his skins. If we ignore that, it has everything a 1350 skin should have.
3. Championship Ryze
Championship Ryze was released as a tribute to the 2019 World Championship held in Europe. It features Ryze in dark blue colors. The skin comes with new animations and sound effects. Or one would think that 1350 RP skin should have these things. The majority of the things on this skin are taken from SKT T1 one. For a higher price, it doesn’t perform to the same level as it so it deserves a place below it.
2. Zombie Ryze – Most Unique
It was debatable whether Zombie Ryze was first, or second best Ryze skin. But in the end, not having new animations was what determined its place. A badass zombie theme and updated sound effects are what make this skin great. It’s hard to obtain it though, your best chance is trying your luck in the Loot system.
1. SKT T1 Ryze – Best Overall
The best Ryze skin in the game is SKT T1 Ryze. Back in 2015, Faker was the most dominant player in League of Legends. When he picked Ryze, you knew you had to watch it. To celebrate his astonishing feat in winning Worlds, he chose Ryze as a skin to represent him. And truthfully, it’s amazing. SKT T1 Ryze is not complicated. Instead, it uses simple movements and animations.
These are pivotal as Ryze uses many spells and changes forms all the time. While recalling he does forward roll, imitating Faker when he was being introduced to the stage. You will have to wait for sales, or Worlds to arrive to get it though.
Conclusion
Even though Ryze has many skins, they’re all relatively similar. The really good ones stick out like a sore thumb. In defense of Riot, there are not too many things you can animate on him causing these similarities. We hope you enjoyed our list of the best Ryze skins.
