Making History with SKT T1
Faker’s debut to the League of Legends pro scene was anything but silent. In his very first tournament OLYMPUS Champions Spring 2013, Faker and his team exceed everyone’s expectations. In fact, Faker had such a dominating performance he was already considered one of the best mid laners in the world. Not too long after he would put an end to that conversation. Leading his team to their first World Championship title in Season 3 with astonishing 15-3 record, he was considered best player in the world.
Not having qualified to the World Championship in 2014, Faker was determined to win it all again in 2015. After a strong showing in the OGN Summer Split where Faker played 12 unique champions across 29 games, SKT would continue their dominance on the Worlds stage as well. They got to the Final undefeated, where they beat KOO Tigers with the score of 3 to 1. With even more dominant win-loss record, SKT finished the tournament with 16 wins and 1 loss.
Now a two-time Worlds winner, Faker was a true legend of the game. Having dominated their region once again, they came to the World Championship in 2016 as favorites once again. In a legendary performance, Faker carried his team to the finals where they met Samsung Galaxy. Unlike his previous two finals, Samsung Galaxy were one step away from taking the Worlds title from him. In a five-game series, SKT managed to end up victorious. Faker became 3-time World champion, a feat accomplished only by himself and his teammate Bengi. That would be Faker’s last Word Championship title. The three world titles would contribute massively to today’s Faker net worth.
Fall of SKT
In their third consecutive Worlds appearance, SKT faltered and lost in the finals vs their last year’s rivals Samsung Galaxy 3-0. Since then, they qualified to the prestigious tournament only once in the last 3 years, where they finished fourth.
While Faker is still considered one of the best players in the world at the moment, SKT continues to struggle. We are all excitedly waiting to see Faker back at the World stage.
